Jesus was before us and guided us

Evening 3.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. was and is an important time in my daily life. I am 56 years old. I use to sit in front of the Blessed Sacrament in our parish chapel and pray to my Lord and Saviour for my family member’s welfare, for all the sick people from my family, fiends and parishioners. Our Parish Fathers announce the names of those who are sick at every Eucharist and we pray for their speedy recovery. Among those sick there are cancer patients, heart patients, hemophilia patients etc etc. The Lord heard my bitter cry and our Parishioners’ prayers. Some got healing, some got relief in their pain and showed signs of improvement.

At last My Lord and Saviour made me to feel the pain and sufferings of those who underwent all these miseries. I felt a pain in my abdomen in November 2006 and took treatment from my family doctor without stopping my Intercessory prayers. In January, 2007 due to unbearable pain, my husband took me to Holy Spirit Hospital, Andheri. Things were different there and my Lord and Saviour made us to travel back from where started our journey and showed us a hospital and a group of very good doctors. I was immediately admitted there and after a series of blood tests, USG, scanning etc., three Oncologists and a Surgeon diagnosed that I myself had become a Cancer Patient of Stage IIC. Doctors said that I have a tumor (9.5x6.1x3.7cm. in size) in uterus surrounded by a cancerous growth which was pressing on the ovary. They advised to take three cycles of Chemotherapy, Surgery and final three cycles of Chemo. I did not lose my hope and said “Jesus! If it’s your will I am ready to bear this pain and suffering, and I know you will save me.” At the end of the third Chemo, the Doctor surprised to see that the tumor got diluted and only a small portion in a diluted form could be seen. The Doctor said “there is a miracle taking place in your body, pray that you will be healed soon. We are just an instrument in His hand. You responded well to chemotherapy.” Our Parish Fathers Fr. Denis Pereira, Fr. Sandeep Borges, our Prayer Group, my relatives and friends prayed for me everyday. Good Councilors like Mr. Richard D’Souza prayed over me and gave me confidence. Parishioners wished me well showered their affection during my hospitalization. In my prayer, I asked for help to see my efforts, problems and successes from the point of view of God’s judgment. I took scripture’s advice and thought about the inevitability of death: “In all you do remember the end of your life, and then you will never sin” Sirach.7:36.

I believed that God would go out of His way to defend me and save me in the midst of my most difficult suffering. It is a clear indication of the undying love that Our Heavenly Father has for us and God continues to pour out His grace and His Grace and favour. St. Paul told the Christians in Rome that God works for good with those who love Him. (Rom. 8:28). I can build my life on this rocklike solid promise. Think of it; through a miraculous intervention, I could feel the healing touch of the Lord. “Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief. Help me to trust fully in your unconditional love for me. Help me to become more confident of your power to save me and work in my daily life”.

Finally I was operated by a famous surgeon and after a month’s rest, I am moving around the house without any pain in my abdomen. During all these months I never felt sad or worried about my sickness but I was courageous.

I also like to mention that since I had no other help except my husband and my son to run around, the Lord made their task easy to shuttle from my home and Andheri, miraculously showed us good doctors and hospital near my house. So Jesus was before us and guided us wherever we went.

I am a Parishioner of the Holy Family Church, Pestomsagar, Chembur and my name is Stella Stephen.
