EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
A SUBLIME & REFRESHING EXPERIENCE

Mr. Stuart Bokaro
PEA Coordinator of
St. Vincent de Paul's Parish,
Khar, Mumbai-400 052.

I represent St. Vincent De Paul's parish, Chum, since 2000, as the co-ordinator of PEACE, under the guidance of Fr. Erasto Fernandez. Eucharistic Adoration promotes personal intimacy with the LORD and is precious time when a person drinks abundantly of the peace and message of Jesus ever-present for us - as has been my experience as well as that of many of my fellow adorers visiting the Blessed Sacrament.

I would like to share my experience with you.- I started visiting the Blessed Sacrament at Prarthnalaya since 1976. I recollect it was in the latter half of 1978 that whilst walking back from Prarthnalaya , I suddenly saw a car hurtling in my direction; seconds later it swerved, just missed me and crashed into a wall just yards behind the path that I had traversed. I was stunned and gradually realized that it was a Providential escape and decided to earnestly appreciate life & the EUCHARIST in its entirety. Decades have passed and I still eagerly look forward, set-aside time to visit the Blessed Sacrament, wherever I happen to be. (You may be aware that there are 80+ Adoration chapels in the Archdiocese of Bombay).

Visiting the Blessed Sacrament to praise and adore Him, I thank the LORD for providing me those precious moments, a divine retreat where I surrender all my cares and anxieties and immerse my whole being with my senses and faculties and gradually experience a calm serene feeling and then… listen to what The LORD would like to convey to me. It is during these intense moments, (a recollection of an incident, images of people, imagination of a new way or path through a difficult situation.) that fleeting thoughts enlighten me and direct me.

Contemplating on the Eucharist and the breaking of the Bread, I am drawn to emulate his glorious & salvific action by breaking myself in loving service of others and sharing my time and talents with them, thus experiencing the undiluted pleasure of imitating Jesus' own Self-giving action in accordance with his words: 'Do this in remembrance of me.' This approach does have a touching and telling effect on people around.

Whilst in His Presence, The Love of the FATHER overwhelms me and feeling saturated, I realize that this pure love cannot remain static within me and I fervently ask that HIS love, grace and blessings be radiated through me to others I would encounter in the next few hours; especially those I am to meet for the first time, as such I have an ardent desire to be like a seamless channel of his grace and work.

Often, before the Blessed Sacrament, I get a wonderful glimpse of our Eternal Home as I look beyond the transient things on earth and visualize the everlasting values of Heaven (which do count in the final analysis) and see many of us sharing our talents, holding hands in solidarity and moving in pilgrimage joyfully towards our Eternal Dwelling Place in ever increasing numbers. These visions fill me with immense joy.

I would like to state that every time I visit the Blessed sacrament in Adoration, I feel energized, invigorated, as if on a nice vacation in the mountains or by the calmness of the sea front (may not be the Arabian Sea outside Prarthnalya), but always feel Refreshed in a Sublime manner, with a spring in my step, and a psalm/song silently humming in my mind and I sense that GOD's looking down on our beautiful world. My hope and desire is that many more Christians might come to discover the blessings and benefits of such prayer before the Sacrament.
